India’s First Stuntwoman

Reshma Pathan is known as the first stunt woman of the Indian film industry who carried out stunts for actresses such as Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi, Dimple Kapadia, Meenakshi Seshadri, Waheeda Rehman and many other actresses through the seventies and eighties. She is the first lady member of Movie Stunt artist Association.
Reshma, started her journey as a stunt woman at the age of 14 to support her family financially and initially faced a lot of opposition, mostly from male stunt artists. In the sixties, stunts and action scenes were mostly a male’s domain, since men used to dress as women to do action sequences in films for heroines.
‘The Sholay Girl’, a biopic inspired by Reshma Pathan’s life, was showcased in 2019. She was also awarded in 2019 by Critics Choice Film Awards for Extraordinary Achievement in Indian Cinema.
